Hey All

The SPIKE is occurring in approximately 3 weeks.  Just thought I would put up a thread to talk about team selection, building, brain storming, etc.

I'll Start:

I am taking Humans with the following roster:

1 Ogre
4 Blitzers
2 Catchers
2 Throwers
2 linemen
1 Karla Von Kill
2 rerolls
1 AC & 1 CL

I went with Karla as I have a model for her (not the official one).  My toughest decision was around the Catchers, Throwers, and Linemen.  I had the cash to use pretty much any mix and I have 6 slots to fill.  I may still change it up but I ended up going for 2 of each.  I could get an extra reroll by replacing a thrower and catcher with LM but I wanted more than 1 catcher.  Not sure what would be the best?

For skills I think I will take

Block ogre (4 pts)
3 blitzers with (Gaurd, Frenzy, tackle) for 5 pts
2 linemen with wrestle (3 pts)
1 thrower with accurate.

So the risky thing I am doing is playing with only 2 rerolls and no leader reroll.  Could be a big mistake!  I think it is mitigated by have 7 players than can block safely.  That  block ogre cost me a lot of points but I recall others have good success with a block big guy.

Thoughts?  Am I crazy?  What are you guys building?

Thunderbowl Champion (Seasons 4 [Vampire], 7 & 21 [Necro])
Powerbowl Champion (Seasons 1 [Norse], 10 [elf], 16 [Chaos Dwf], 38 [Human])
SPIKE Champion 2009 & 2015 [Chaos Dwf] & 2016 [Underworld]

I think I'm going to rework the skills, but I love the idea of 3 DP skeletons. I have a reputation to maintain after all!
If I came here to win, I probably wouldn't come here.

That is a lot of extra bodies!!!  You could get the fouling star player guy undead get.  You could also drop a few dudes and get a bribe but it may be better with just lots of dudes.

For the skills, you can save some points by replacing the second block skill with wrestle.  Gives you 2 more points (could get you a second DP or perhaps a guard on a mummy or wight).  I would take tackle over strong arm on the wight.  I'm not a fan of sprint either, I would prefer sure feet or sidestep.  Lastly, I like one sure hands ghoul to combat those strip ball wardancers....

Still on the fence. I always wanted to try the 6 gutter runner skaven team.

After a lot of brain storming and theory crafting, I decided to go for the grindy Human team vs. the finesse human team.  Let's see how it goes!

Blitzer with Mighty Blow
Blitzer with Frenzy
Blitzer with Tackle
Blitzer with Gaurd
Catcher with Block
Thrower
2 linemen with wrestle
1 lineman with dirty player
1 linemen
1 ogre
Karla Von Kill
3 Rerolls

The tipping point was that this build gets 3 rerolls while a high catcher build only has 2 (Karla was a must take).  This team also has 8 players with block or wrestle, so its pretty safe.  The Ogre will be a last move type of guy

Still not sure if taking mighty Blow on the one blitzer is worth it.  I could remove it and take an accurate thrower and a 1 point skill on the ogre (piling On, stand firm, or break tackle).

I also tried the block ogre build but it sucks up a lot of skill points and I prefer to distribute them all around.  It would look like this:

Ogre with block (4 pts)
Catcher with block (3 pts)
Blitzer with Guard (2)
Blitzer with tackle (1)
2 linemen with wrestle (3 pts)

Not too bad, it may be worth it.  I would have 9 players with block/wrestle this way but I loose a Mighty blow blitzer, a frenzy blitzer, and a dirty player.
