Skaven

Ratchester United - Spike! 2009 Edition

Well, Subhedgehog laid down the gauntlet a while ago, but better late than never, eh?

My Spike 2009 Lineup

180kgp - 2 x Storm Vermin

320kgp - 4 x Gutter Runner

250kgp - 5 x Linerat

70kgp - 1 x Thrower

180kgp - 3 x Rerolls

I really considered dropping down to 11 players (converting the thrower to a linerat) and taking the fourth reroll... but ultimately I need to be able to field a team in the second half so I'll have to make do with 3 potential mulligans instead.

Oh well, it just means that I start routinely turning over on the first action on Turn 4 instead of Turn 5.

The plan?

Score early, score often and die trying.

If I can't get the "most TDs" award, I think I'm probably a shoe-in for "most casualties received" if that halfling kid doesn't show up this year ;)

My ideal matchup is probably against Lord Chaos. I'd like to score every two turns and he'd be happy to "rack 'em up" for another shot at killing my line of scrimmage.

Decimated in round of 12....

It was oh so close all the way through, back and forth...

I was ahead up until rnd 5 of the second half, but I just couldn't hold back the tide of foxes....  By the end of the game it was 0 casualties for my side.... and 2 dead, 3 badly hurt, 2 MNG and 2 SI....

Then they tied it up on turn 7, with 2 go for its after I screwed up placement trying to crack a nine man cage....

to add insult to injury blitz on my team 8 allowed him to score a TD on his last turn pulling ahead....

Confessions of a newbie coach

So I'm seriously considering starting my first team in the next upcoming season in August.  I've maybe played 5-6 games of bloodbowl period over the last 5-6 years so I'm woefully out of practice.  I'll be playing Skaven, which probably isn't the ideal learning team due to their low AV.  But hey, I'm a sucker for punishment and Skaven were my first Fantasy army that I started with about 14 years ago.

I decided I'll probably start with an apothecary to try to minimize some of my better players (stormvermin and gutter runners) from leaving the game early.  I won't bother wasting it on linerats as they're a dime a dozen.  My largest concern is the lack of players as I'm at 11 exactly so every casualty will hurt, but I'm of the understanding that most teams have this issue when they first start out.  I'll likely buy a few more linesmen before investing in 2 more gutter runners.

So with that here's my starting team:

6 Linerats

1 Thrower

2 Gutter Runners

2 Stormvermin

3 Rerolls

6 Fan Factor

1 Apothecary

Looking forward to coming out this weekend and playing some bloodbowl.  I'm going to read the guide to blocking to get some insight on some of the tactics of this game as I understand the mechanics.

See you on the field!
