Match: Detritivore Lions (0) vs. The Dark Side (4)

The anticipation of seeing The Dark Side's first game proved too much for the crowd, which surged onto the Pitch with the initial kickoff. The crowd was partisan, leaving 6 Lions but only 3 DEs stunned. This set up an early defensive TD for TDS by Blitzer DeathBringer who got 2 CAS in the process. TDS got another defensive TD on Turn 8 when the ball emerged from a confused scrum on the LOS, was scooped up and handed off to Blitzer SwiftKiller, who chipped in later with another CAS. In the second half TDS Witch Elf Elvira scored on Turn 11, after falling on the goal line the prior turn (even with a TRR). A deep kick on the next drive lead to an interception and TD by TDS lineman EarnestOne. TVs played - Lions 109 and TDS 100. TDS took a Babe (5).

Match: Vampires?? (2) vs. Dead Red Army (2)

Vampires?? jumped out to a quick lead with an impressive - bloodlust free - throwing play. On the next drive a DRA ghoul ballcarrier failed a dodge (with Dodge skill), setting up a ball recovery by the Vampires, and a defensive TD. A quick score by the DRA on their turn 8 left the score 2-1, with the DRA receiving in the second half. After a drive down the left side failed, the DRA were able to switch back and go through the middle scoring on their Turn 14. A Riot on the ensuing Kick off gave the Vampires?? 3 turns to score. Some untimely bloodlust rolls left a key Vampire in the Reserve box, and the game ended 2-2. Vampires?? inducement - 1 Babe (5) (a wise and useful purchase, the DRA very politely declining to CAS anyone, only inflicting KOs throughout the game).

Match: Detritivore Lions (3) vs. DOA (2)

Fun match, on DOA's opening drive, they managed to kill the Troll.. but the apothecary got in the way and we was back on the next drive. DOA kept the "wall" up, made a cage and took it in on turn 4. The Lions came back with a nice bit of re-direction tying the game before the end of the half. DOA had a little problem handling the ball in the second half, and after a quarter back sack.. a ghoul was left to contemplate his career choice in the BH box... while a rat walked the ball in with little effort. This rallied DOA's troops, counting 5 casualties - killing one and -1st to another.... they let in another TD, but it was worth it. The Lions were down a few members and allowed DOA a second td as they all scurried off to hide in a corner to end the game 3-2 Lions.

Winning will alllow the Lions to replace the dead member... so It's a Victory for both teams, the Lions win, DOA didn't lose anyone and made some spp's and $$ doing it.
Lions #13 Thistle gained AG+1 and Lions #11 Crix - gained Block skill.
DOA had no rolls to make.

A few choice moments from this game were captured on film. In the first, that game as it was a few seconds before it all went horribly wrong for the Lions. The second was taken shortly there after.

Match: Vampires?? (3) vs. Detritivore Lions (0)

Lots of fighting on this one, throw a rock, 3 players sent off for fouling, two deaths and a slew of underworld in the wrong part of the dugout. The Vampires seemed to have their way with the Lions, but the Lions fought tooth and nail until the bitter end.

Match: Dead Red Army (2) vs. The High and Mighty (1)

The DRA kicked in the first half, but were able to retrieve the ball on their turn 2. Unfortunately, the H&M did so as well on their Turn 3, then proceeded to "elf" the ball into the DRA endzone with a combination of dodges, a handoff and a pass. Luckily for the DRA, the H&M were out of TRR by their Turn 4, which lead to a number of very short turns, including one that ended on the first roll (a bad combo of skull and both down with a player without block). This lead to a DRA turn 8 score to end the half 1-1.

The second half started badly for the DRA. Despite getting a CAS on their opening blitz (a Kill, no less, that was APO'ed to an MNG) the Ghoul designated to pick up the ball failed to do so, even with a TRR. This then lead to the H&M's ST4 Blitzer breaking into the DRA backfield and picking up the ball right under the noses of the two watching Ghouls. On the DRA's ensuing turn, a Wight dodged away from the line and blitzed the ball out of the ST4 Blitzer's hands. A few lucky bounces and the ball was in the hands of one of the Ghouls. The game's turning point came at the end of this turn when the other Ghoul fouled the ST4 Blitzer with 2 assists. The armour roll was 6+1 = 7, which with the 2 assists broke the Blitzer's AV8 armour. The Injury roll - 5+4=9, so the ST4 blitzer had to take a trip to the KO box, and no one from the DRA was ejected for fouling!

A turn later the H&M fortunes seemed to revive when their journeyman lineman suicide blitzed into the DRA cage. Doing so required 2 5+ dodges and then a 2 dice DRA choice block. This resulted in a Both Down that not only knocked the ball loose, it killed the ghoul carrying the ball! (Dang that AV7 and no APO!) The DRA were able to rally, though, picking up the ball and moving steadily downfield behind the 2 MA3 Mummies. In a repeat of the first half the H&M ran out of TRR and short turned a number of times, losing in the process several more players to KOs.

The DRA scored on their turn 16. There was no riot on the H&M turn 16, so this one went into the record books as 2-1 DRA. An exciting and close game that could have gone either way if the rerolls (and one crucial foul) had gone the other way.

Game notes: H&M TV 116 due to one 70k journeyman. DRA took one 50K card. Journeyman got a CAS, but not purchased at the end of the game due to insufficient funds. Skill choices: H&M #10 - normal (tentatively took Dodge); DRA 3 and 13 - normal (tentatively took Tackle and Block, respectively); DRA 5 - AG+1

Match: Vampires?? (1) vs. The High and Mighty (1)

Vampires got 2 cards. Exploding Runes and Sprinkler Malfunction. That sprinkler malfunction made the elves unable to pick up the ball for three turns which completely denied them their 2nd TD. The 2nd half was absolutely brutal with a total of 7 casualties inflicted. The Vampires caused 3 of those casualties in the first turn of the second half. NASTY!

Match: Vampires?? (0) vs. Dead Red Army (3)

The first half was played in Sweltering heat; at one point no less than 4 members of the DRA and 2 of Vamps were off the field recovering. Mercifully, the weather changed at the start of the Second Half. The DRA interrupted the Vamps first drive with an interception by Uncle Joe the Mummy. Despite some valiant GFIs he was swarmed by 3 thralls midfield. A handoff to Konstantin the AG4 Ghoul remedied that problem, and a couple of GFI later the DRA were up 1-0. A lucky Blitz by the DRA on Turn 6 lead to their second defensive TD on Turn 7. The Second half saw the Vampires bring out their second dirty trick, exploding Runes. On the first attempt to use it a DRA Skeleton was able to intercept it and throw it successfully back into a pack of Thralls, causing a turnover. The DRA scored shortly thereafter, leaving them up 3-0. Then ensued a prolonged back and forth struggle in the Vamp right backfield as possession of the ball passed back and forth, which lead to several multiple ball bouncings and failed pick up attempts by the DRA's Ghouls. Bloodlust finally hit Nikolai the Vampire, who KO'ed a thrall in the process, but not before on his blitz he was able to CAS DRA star Ghoul Konstantin. With no Regen and no APO, his coach had to watch helplessly as he took a -AV SI. The Vamps were able to recover the ball and throw it downfield to a waiting Thrall - who was intercepted by the Skeleton who was tagging him! Unfortunately, the DRA coach got reckless, and on Turn 16 tried to dodge away with the ball for a pass downfield. Without a TRR the Skeleton collapsed in a pile of bones, giving the Vamps a chance to break the Shutout on Turn 16. Unhappily, the Vamps' sole remaining TRR was used overcoming a Bloodlust roll at the start of the turn, so when the Thrall who successfully received the throw from the Vamp tried to GFI to score, there was no TRR to use when he tripped over the goal line.

An exciting and well played match.

Match: Dead Red Army (2) vs. Sod Biters (0)

The Sod Biters were heavily bribed by Zzarg Madeye as he really wanted a game, unfortunately for the Sod Biters he was utterly useless, he needs to lay off the Babes and Beer. All he managed to do was drop a pick up attempt and then get sent off after a successful TD by the Dead Red Army.
The Sod Biters had 2x 100k Good Karma cards, no good karma came from them. The 2 Bloodweiser Babes spent the game entertaining Zzarg after he was sent off in turn 4.
The match had 2 riots, one sending sending the turn counter back one turn in the 1st half, and the other sending the game forwards 3 turns in the 2nd half. The Sod Biters fans wanted the game over quickly before their team was decimated.

Match: Dead Red Army (1) vs. Honor the Dead (1)

The game appeared like it would be a grind based on the match card and the fact it was raining. The Khemri won the toss and thier coach decided to receive. On the opening kick off the weather changed to a blizzard! The ball landed close to the LoS and on the wrong side for the Khemri. A small box was formed around it and on the second turn the Khemri ran an unlikely reverse, with a lone blitz-ra running downfield. Only one ghoul was in range and he failed his one off blitz, rolling a skull both times. They Khemri were able to delay one turn and score on turn 4, right after a tomb gaurdian rolled tripple skull, reroll, double skull + push! Whew!

The second part of the first half saw a perfect defence. This caused a lot of problems for the undead and had them all frazzled as they decided to pick up the ball first and failed. Unfortunatly the Khemri cold not take advantage due to a both down by a tomb guardian on a zombie. This resulted in the tomb guardians death! Thanks to decay, grrrrrr. The rest of the half was a mad scamble and the ball was stuck in the middle of the field.

The second half was a total slaughter, with the undead taking it to the Khemri. Another player hurt himself on a block, but luckily it was only a BH. The mummies slowly wore down the tomb guardians until only a few players were left. They decided to continue the grind instead of scoring and spent the last two turns beating on the Khemri.

A tight and well played game by both coaches.
